The service does not perform number-plate recognition and does not intentionally store registration numbers.
Snapshots are automatically blurred to obscure plates and faces before display. This is a best-effort technical filter, not a guarantee of absolute anonymization.
Where a crossing's snapshot is permitted to be shown publicly, the privacy-protected (blurred) version is used, not the raw camera frame. Whether a given crossing's snapshot may be shown at all is a separate, per-source permission decision -- some crossings are analytics-only and never display an image.
CrossingWise does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics. Optional features -- favorites, saved wait-threshold alerts, recently viewed crossings, sort order, and light/dark theme -- are stored only in your browser's local storage. They are never sent to CrossingWise's servers and there is no account or sign-in.
Community-reported wait times shown alongside camera estimates are sourced from borderalarm.com, an independent third party -- see their own site for how they handle data.
